Weather pending, during the daytime hours of Wednesday, October 28, 2009, crews will open the new US 15 Southbound ramps at Lower Allen Drive. As part of this traffic change, the remaining portion of Lower Allen Drive between Gettysburg Road and Hartzdale Drive that was closed in February 2009 will be reopened with traffic in the final configuration and all turn lanes open. New traffic signals at the intersections of the new ramps and Lower Allen Drive will control traffic in the area. Also on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, crews will permanently close all of the remaining US 15 / Gettysburg Road ramps. The US 15 Northbound ramps at Gettysburg Road (via Spangler Road) were permanently closed on October 23, 2009.

Also on October 28, 2009, crews will temporarily close and detour Ramp E (US 15 SB to PA 581 EB) to permit construction of a portion of US 15 Southbound in preparation for future traffic shifts and to facilitate phased construction. US 15 Southbound traffic wishing to enter PA 581 Eastbound will be directed, via a signed detour route, to continue ½ mile south on US 15 to the newly opened interchange at Lower Allen Drive. Motorists will then turn left onto Lower Allen Drive, travel under the newly constructed US 15 Bridge, and turn left again onto the new on-ramp to US 15 Northbound. Motorists can then access PA 581 Eastbound from US 15 NB via the existing ramp at the US 15 / PA 581 interchange. A graphic of the detour route is available at http://www.penndot8.com/projects/0015-006/Images/detour.swf. Motorists are advised that the new Lower Allen Drive interchange will be the new point of access to and from US 15. Traffic will no longer be able to use any of the on or off ramps at Gettysburg Road. |
